US stock futures were trading mixed early Wednesday as investors awaited the release of quarterly results from Micron Technology, considered one of the most important companies in the memory and artificial intelligence sector.
S&P 500 futures were rising to 7.451 points, up 13,50 points or 0,18%. Nasdaq futures were showing a more significant gain, rising 108,75 points, or 0,37%, to 29.774,75 points.
Meanwhile, futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average remained virtually unchanged at 52.080 points, with a slight decline of only 2 points. Contracts for the Russell 2000, an index that tracks smaller-cap companies, advanced 0,17% to 3.003,30 points.
Among the indicators monitored by the market, the VIX volatility index rose 12,79%, reaching 19,49 points, signaling caution after the sharp correction observed in technology stocks during the previous session.
In the commodities market, gold fell 1,69%, trading at US$4.079,30 per ounce. WTI crude oil for August delivery dropped 1,15% to US$72,37 a barrel. Bitcoin was trading at US$62.558, accumulating a decline of 1,55%.
In extended trading, shares of Micron and Sandisk rose about 1%, recovering some of the losses recorded on Tuesday. Both companies suffered strong selling pressure during regular trading, mirroring the general decline in companies linked to the memory segment.
The Roundhill Memory ETF (DRAM), which tracks companies in the sector, had closed the previous session down 14%, but showed a recovery of nearly 2% after the market closed.
Another highlight was Alphabet, Google's parent company. Its shares rose slightly after confirmation that the company will be included in the Dow Jones index starting next week.
Heavy profit-taking in technology stocks weighed on Wall Street on Tuesday. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed lower, while the Dow Jones posted more moderate losses.
In Asia, markets showed mixed performance. South Korea's Kospi advanced more than 3% after a sharp correction in the previous session. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0,6%, while China's CSI 300 traded near stability.
Stocks related to the semiconductor sector were among the hardest hit. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) fell 7%, while Intel lost 6% and Qualcomm retreated approximately 8%.
According to Dan Skelly, head of market research and strategy at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, the market is beginning to observe potential changes in the fundamentals related to artificial intelligence.
“We’ve heard about price wars among some of the model makers, we’ve heard about rental prices for older GPUs starting to fall, and we’ve also seen a shift in tone from Microsoft, which led the AI rollout three years ago with ChatGPT and its partnership with OpenAI.”
"Microsoft is now talking about a shift in strategic direction toward lower-cost models."
Investor attention remains focused on the release of Micron's results after the market closes. Analysts project earnings of $20,83 per share and revenue of $35,75 billion.
Despite the strong accumulated appreciation in 2026, strategists believe that the behavior of the shares after the earnings report could serve as an important indicator of investors' appetite for companies linked to artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
