Amylyx's Treatment for Post-Bariatric Hypoglycemia Meets Primary, Secondary Endpoints in Late-Stage Trial

Amylyx Pharmaceuticals said a late-stage trial of its treatment for post-bariatric hypoglycemia met all of its primary and secondary goals.

Post-bariatric hypoglycemia is a chronic metabolic condition that can arise following weight-loss surgeries and causes recurrent and often debilitating low blood sugar.

Amylyx before Tuesday's opening bell said its treatment - avexitide, an investigational, first-in-class GLP-1 receptor antagonist - met the primary endpoint of a recent late-stage study, demonstrating a 55% reduction in the composite rate of Level 2 and Level 3 hypoglycemic events compared with placebo.

The treatment additionally met all secondary endpoints, Amylyx added.

Shares jumped 21%, to $26, in premarket trading.

The trial enrolled 78 patients with post-bariatric hypoglycemia following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. Avexitide was generally well-tolerated through the double-blind study period, with a consistent and favorable safety profile replicated across all trials to date, the company said.

Looking ahead, Amylyx plans to submit a new drug application to the Food and Drug Administration by the end of 2026. The FDA previously granted avexitide breakthrough-therapy designation.
