US New-Home Sales Expected to Fall in July After Gain in June

02:27 PM EDT, 08/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US new single family home sales are expected to fall to a 620,000 annual rate in July based on a survey compiled by Bloomberg, after increasing to a 628,000 annual rate in June. Sales would also be below the 648,000 annual rate reported in July 2025. The data are scheduled to be released at 10:00 am ET Tuesday. Single-family existing home sales fell by 1.9% in July, according to data released on Aug 11, but were up 0.8% from a year ago. Recent mortgage application data from the Mortgage Bankers Association indicated that mortgage rates increased in July. The supply of new homes for sale was below its year-ago level in last month's report for June and prices were also lower. An additional supply of new homes for sales would allow current homeowners to move and put their current homes on the market. Home building data for April released on Aug. 18 showed a jump in building permits but declines in both housing starts and in home completions. The National Association of Home Builders reported on Aug. 17 that builder sentiment fell to an index reading of 34 in July from 36 in June before partially rebounding to a reading of 35 in August, noting continuing affordability challenges.
