On Tuesday, Germany auctioned approximately €3.83 billion in two-year Schatz bonds, with an average winning yield of 2.85%, higher than the previous auction's 2.78%, indicating a rise in short-term German bond pricing levels.
The bid-to-cover ratio for this auction was 1.5 times, showing a marginal improvement over the previous 1.4 times. This suggests that despite the rise in yields, market participants' appetite for subscription has not weakened, but rather slightly increased.
The simultaneous increase in yields and recovery of the bid-to-cover ratio reflects the ongoing tug-of-war in the European bond market regarding monetary policy expectations; investors are choosing to enter the market moderately as yield attractiveness improves.
As a benchmark bond issuer in the Eurozone, Germany's short-term government bond auction results are often seen as a barometer of market risk appetite. The dual changes in both volume and price indicators in this auction suggest that demand remains somewhat resilient.
