Spire Global Wins $28 Million NOAA Award for Weather Forecasting Technology

04:55 PM EDT, 08/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Spire Global (SPIR) said Wednesday it secured a $28 million contract from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to advance hyperspectral microwave sounding technology for weather forecasting. Under the two-year agreement, the company will use its technology stack to build a more advanced satellite and sensor system, which will be placed in an orbit designed to support the regulatory agency's weather forecasting needs. Spire Global said the technology's operational capability is targeted to begin no later than 2030.
