KKR Agrees to $250 Million Fine to Settle US Antitrust Lawsuit

MT newswireMT newswire2026/08/27 08:44
04:44 AM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- KKR (KKR) has agreed to settle for $250 million a US Department of Justice lawsuit accusing the firm of repeatedly violating federal pre-merger filing rules, the regulator said Wednesday. The Justice Department said the penalty is the largest ever under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. The case involves alleged filing violations related to KKR's acquisitions, rather than claims that the underlying transactions were unlawful. KKR reportedly disputed the DOJ's characterization of its conduct but agreed to settle. The company said outside law firms will reimburse the penalty, according to Reuters. KKR did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
