Pfizer, BioNTech Get US FDA Clearance for COVID-19 Vaccine Targeting XFG Variant

05:02 PM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Pfizer (PFE) and BioNTech (BNTX) said Thursday the US Food and Drug Administration has approved the supplemental biologics license application for their 2026-2027 COVID-19 vaccine targeting the XFG variant. The vaccine was approved for use in adults aged 65 years and older, and also for people ages 5 through 64 with at least one underlying condition that places them at high risk for severe outcomes from the disease, the companies said. The vaccine will start shipping immediately and will be available in the US in the coming days, the companies said.
