Canada Removes Seafood, Adds Wood Charcoal, Copper Wire to Updated US Counter-Tariff List

08:05 AM EDT, 08/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canada added wood charcoal and copper wire, among other products, to its updated list of countertariffs on US goods presented this week, while removing seafood from the list on Thursday following industry feedback. The updated list was made available on the government of Canada's website. The original list started at 874 items and is now down to 648, according to Scotiabank Economics. Talks between the US and Canada collapsed last week and the US imposed 50% tariffs on C$28 billion of Canadian goods. Canada responded Tuesday with "dollar-for-dollar" countertariffs, which will come into force from Sept. 8.
