ISM Chicago PMI Falls Unexpectedly in August

09:53 AM EDT, 08/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Institute for Supply Management's Chicago PMI reading fell to 47.1 in August from 57.6 in July, compared with an expected increase to a reading of 57.9 in a survey compiled by Bloomberg, indicating contraction in the sector. Other regional manufacturing data already released for August have pointed to continued expansion. The national ISM manufacturing index will be released on September 1.
