US Dollar Rises Early Tuesday Ahead of Busy Data Release Day

07:47 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Tuesday ahead of a busy data schedule, starting with weekly Redbook same-store sales at 8:55 am ET. Federal Reserve Governor Michael Barr is due to speak at 9:05 am ET, followed by manufacturing data from S&P Global at 9:45 am ET. The ISM's manufacturing reading for August, RealClearMarkets consumer sentiment data for August, construction data for July, and job openings data for July are all due to be released at 10:00 am ET. The Dallas Fed's nonmanufacturing index for August is due to be released at 10:30 am ET, and the Atlanta Fed's Q3 GDP nowcast estimate is expected to be updated around midday. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Tuesday: EUR/USD fell to 1.1593 from 1.1615 at the Monday US close and 1.1602 at the same time Monday morning. Eurozone manufacturing PMI rose in August while Eurozone year-over-year consumer price growth accelerated in the same month, but the annual core rate slowed, data released earlier Tuesday showed. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10. GBP/USD fell to 1.3536 from 1.3548 at the Monday US close and 1.3545 at the same time Monday morning. UK home prices rebounded in August, lifting the year-over-year rate, while UK manufacturing PMI fell slightly in August but remained above its breakeven point, data released earlier Tuesday showed. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17. USD/JPY rose to 160.1261 from 159.7432 at the Monday US close and 159.6701 at the same time Monday morning. Japanese manufacturing PMI rose further above the breakeven point while Japanese capital spending growth accelerated in Q2 and Japanese household confidence rose in August, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17-18. USD/CAD rose to 1.3880 from 1.3860 at the Monday US close but was below a level of 1.3884 at the same time Monday morning. The Canadian manufacturing PMI for August is due to be released at 9:30 am ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, when no change in the target rate is expected.
