S&P/TSX Composite Index Falls For Second Day, Information Technology, Industrials Worst Performers

10:31 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P/TSX Composite Index continued its downward slide for the second straight day, shedding 191 points on last look. Global bond yields are rising, stoked by inflation worries caused by higher oil prices and inflation worries. Information technology, and industrials were the worst performers, down 1.3% and 1.7%, respectively.. The energy sector, boosted by rising oil prices, was the top gainer, climbing 1.6% higher, followed by the healthcare sector, up 1.1%. In economic news, the manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) came in at 53.0 in August 2026 from 53.5 in July, but stayed above the 50.0 no-change threshold for a fifth consecutive month. Underpinning the positive PMI reading in August were rises in production and new orders, S&P said.
