Scotiabank Appoints European Banking Veteran to Board

11:46 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Scotiabank (BNS.TO) appointed European banking veteran Ralph Hamers to its board, effective immediately, the bank said on Tuesday. Hamers was group chief executive officer of UBS Group from 2020 to 2023 and chief executive officer of ING Group from 2013 to 2020, a statement said. "[Hamers'] expertise in digital transformation and innovation, and his global banking perspective, will be invaluable as the board continues to support the bank's strategy to deliver more value for clients and shareholders," said board chair Aaron Regent. Scotiabank shares were last seen up C$0.39, to C$127.26, on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Price: 127.25, Change: +0.38, Percent Change: +0.30
