AMC Entertainment CEO Aron Criticizes Robinhood Markets for Launching Stock Token

06:46 AM EDT, 09/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- AMC Entertainment (AMC) CEO Adam Aron criticized Robinhood Markets (HOOD) on X Thursday after the digital trading platform launched a tokenized version of AMC shares, referring to the practice as "contemptible" and "outrageous". Aron stated that AMC had no connection to the token, noting that stock tokens are not registered under US securities laws and that the company's outside securities counsel will look into the matter. In response, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev asked Aron what the concern was. Aron said that "the list of concerns is almost existential," questioning how Robinhood could operate the tokenized product from Jersey and market a security resembling AMC shares without complying with US securities laws. According to Robinhood's disclosure cited by Aron, the Stock Tokens are issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited and are offered only outside the US to non-US persons under Regulation S of the Securities Act of 1933. Aron also called on Robinhood to "cease and desist" trading AMC stock tokens, and said AMC plans to raise the matter with the Securities and Exchange Commission if the offering continues. "This quasi-fake market you are creating on the island of Jersey sows distrust amongst the public about financial markets in general," Aron said.
