Ethereum Exchange Reserves Hit an 11-Year Low: Could ETH Face a Supply Squeeze and Higher Prices?

Ethereum is facing a significant decline in its availability on crypto exchanges, with the amount of ETH held on centralized exchanges (CEXs) dropping to an 11-year low. As the supply decreases, experts and investors remain optimistic about a possible ETH price surge. However, lower exchange reserves do not necessarily mean a positive catalyst for the crypto price. Only when the shrinking supply meets stronger investor demand could it lead to a rally.

Such a fall in the reserves of exchanges means that there is now less ETH available for sale right away. In case demand goes up, this may become a big catalyst. This doesn’t mean that there is a clear supply shortage. These tokens may re-enter the market if investors just transferred their coins to private wallets, staking platforms, or storage facilities.

Notably, lower ETH supply on CEXs could support the Ethereum price, but only if demand rises. When investors increasingly buy the remaining tokens as availability becomes scarcer, the increasing buying pressure could push the token higher.

Also, there are other market signals to be watched. The indicators are spot trading volumes, ETF flows, whale movements, and ETH momentum. Should these signals show increased demand, even amidst the decrease in reserves on exchanges, the probability of a bullish move being triggered by supply is high. On the other hand, should demand weaken, the decrease in reserves will mean little for the price.

It is important to note that Ethereum reserves can continue to fall even if the ETH price is still in a negative trend. A drop in exchange supply does not always mean that the price will move higher. It can happen only when the exchange supply declines with rising investor demand.

The reduction in the supply of ETH does not always signify that investors are accumulating the tokens. It can also mean that they are taking the tokens off exchanges and storing them for long-term purposes. They may either store them in their own personal wallets, stake them, or store them in cold storage. This implies that ETH can still experience selling pressure due to other market forces even as its reserves decline.

At press time, ETH is trading at $2,489, representing a decrease of 1.09% from the previous day. While the token has been on the decline within the day, ETH has appreciated by 33% over the month. This reflects the conflicting dynamics of the altcoin.

While the attention now turns to decreasing exchange supply and its effect on the Ethereum price, $2,500 is a key level to observe. The breaking of this level in the upward direction indicates that higher trading volumes are driving prices higher.

From the technical side, ETH is approaching the 78.6% Fibonacci level at $2,496. At the same time, the 4-hour Supertrend is bullish above $2,429. This suggests that despite the weaker sentiment, the bullish structure is not yet fully destroyed. If the Ethereum price manages to stay above the $2,465 level, bulls can regain control, pushing the token higher.

Significantly, the decline in ETH supply on CEXs could suggest that investors are increasingly choosing to hold their tokens for the long term instead of keeping them ready for selling. If they have moved the tokens to private wallets or staking platforms, it could mean that they prefer holding their tokens for the long term.

At the same time, these tokens can be moving between platforms or wallets for other reasons. The trend could be confirmed when the exchange reserves fall while staking activity and token accumulation rise.

Interestingly, if Ethereum exchange reserves continue to fall, the available supply becomes tighter. When stronger buying activity accompanies this, it could support the ETH price. The lack of available coins for buyers could make it easier for the price to go up. In order for the price to continue rising, ETH requires continued buyer interest to convert the reduced supply into higher prices.

As far as the reduction of the exchange reserve is concerned, this could be seen as a good sign for the Ethereum price. However, this can only be seen as an indication of the ETH price rally and not a confirmation of it.

After the Federal Reserve released hawkish signals, Goldman Sachs changed its stance: expects another 25 basis point hike in October

Goldman Sachs’ core rationale for including a rate hike in October as its baseline scenario is that since the Federal Reserve has characterized this hike as a move to "more promptly return" to the 2% target, following up in consecutive meetings is more natural than skipping meetings between hikes. However, Goldman Sachs believes that additional rate hikes beyond two are not part of the baseline scenario, mainly because its own inflation forecasts are lower than the median projections of Federal Reserve members.
