Market Chatter: OpenAI Weighs Funding Round At Over $1.2 Trillion Valuation

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/15 23:59
07:59 PM EDT, 09/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- OpenAI is in early talks with investors about a funding round that could value the ChatGPT maker at more than $1.2 trillion, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing a person familiar with the talks. The timing of any fundraising will depend on when OpenAI decides to go public, the person said. The talks were initiated by investors, according to the report. A funding round at that valuation would put OpenAI ahead of Anthropic, which raised funds in May at a $965 billion valuation, including the new investment, Bloomberg reported. OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally. Bank of Canada Issues Strongest Stagflation Warning: Tariffs May Push Q4 Growth Below 1%, High Oil Prices Intensify Inflation

Bank of Canada Governor Macklem stated on Monday that a new round of U.S. tariffs could halve Canada’s fourth-quarter economic growth, dropping it below 1%, while annual inflation will remain at 3%, exceeding the 2% target. He added that if oil prices continue to hover around $100 per barrel, prices could be pushed even higher. Macklem said that if inflation is manageable, he does not want to raise interest rates; however, if inflation exceeds expectations, he also does not want to react too slowly.
