Lucid, Bolt Team Up On European Autonomous-Mobility Push

Electric-vehicle startup Lucid Group and European shared-mobility company Bolt said they will team up to develop and deploy autonomous mobility services across Europe.
The companies on Thursday said they will jointly develop an autonomous-driving-system-ready vehicle platform designed for SAE Level 4 autonomy. The platform is expected to use Nvidia's Hyperion autonomous-vehicle architecture.
Bolt, which operates across more than 850 cities, said it intends to own and operate the autonomous fleet, aiming to deploy at least 25,000 fully autonomous vehicles, based on Lucid's upcoming midsize vehicle platform, across multiple European cities and countries.
The 25,000-vehicle target is part of Bolt's broader ambition to have 100,000 AVs on its platform by 2035. The companies didn't disclose financial terms of the partnership or a timetable for deployment of the vehicles.
Bolt said its role will extend from product development through commercial operation. The company will help define vehicle requirements, as well as software, safety and rider-experience parameters for autonomous vehicles operating on its platform. It also plans to build the fleet infrastructure, operating systems and city partnerships needed to deploy the vehicles at scale.
Lucid said the partnership will be led by its newly established Lucid Technologies unit, which brings together its artificial-intelligence, advanced driver-assistance, autonomy and digital functions.
The companies said they will work with autonomous-driving technology partners and European regulators and policymakers as they develop the vehicles and seek to introduce autonomous mobility services across the region.
