Update: Market Chatter: Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse AI Agent From Retail Site

01:52 PM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Amazon's comments in the third and fourth paragraphs.) Amazon.com (AMZN) blocked Meta Platforms' (META) Muse AI agent from its retail site, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing Amazon spokesperson Lara Hendrickson. Amazon prohibits other companies from using automated tools to shop its site, and Meta declined an initial request to remove the bot, the report said. "Third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers from other businesses should operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate," an Amazon spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires, adding that agentic third-party applications like Muse have the same obligations. AI agents bypass personalization features and may capture customer credentials and account data, raising concerns about how that data is handled and protected, the company said. Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires. Amazon shares rose 1.6% in Monday trading, and Meta jumped 9.7%. Michael Burry has dramatically increased his short positions on Micron, Palantir, and semiconductor ETFs, stating that the scale is “quite large.” His main reasoning is that Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron squeezed their conventional DRAM production to meet AI-driven HBM demand, resulting in a shortage; however, with production capacity now ramping up, the Damocles sword of oversupply is hanging over the market. The inventory warning from Acer’s CEO has further convinced him that the memory cycle has already peaked.
