Meta releases $1299 VR headset weighing approximately 100g

Meta Platforms (META.US) announced the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses virtual reality headset on Wednesday local time. The device features an external computing module design, moving the processor, cooling fan, battery, and other core components to an external device, significantly reducing the headset’s weight. The device weighs about 100 grams, which is only about one-sixth of the Apple Vision Pro and one-fifth of the Quest 3S. Meta stated that the new VR glasses are expected to drive profitability for the Reality Labs business. The company said it previously relied on app store and virtual goods revenue to offset hardware losses, but the pricing of the new device makes it possible for each unit to break even.
