Market Chatter: Petroleo Brasileiro Awaits Official Nod on Columbia Offshore Gas Project for 2027

04:01 AM EDT, 09/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR) awaits an official nod to develop an offshore Colombia gas field, as part of its 2027 to 2031 production slate, Reuters reported Wednesday. Petrobas anticipates development of the deep-water Sirius gas deposit, if the oil company can get the necessary environmental license from Colombia, said Sylvia Anjos, director of exploration and production, to journalists at an industry event. The state-run Petrobas will more fully reveal its pending five-year production plans later this year, said Anjos. Petrobas is the operator of the Sirius project, with a 44.4% stake, alongside Colombia's Ecopetrol (EC). Petrobras has progressed towards obtaining the environmental license for the Sirius field, but must conclude consultations with local communities, said Anjos. The consultations are a requirement intended to protect the rights of ethnic communities that may be affected by such projects, said Petrobas.
