Sector Update: Consumer

03:26 PM EDT, 09/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were lower late Thursday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) declining 0.6% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) easing 0.3%. In corporate news, Sony (SONY), the New York Times (NYT) and film studio A24 have expressed interest in Letterboxd, with the social network for movie fans valued at more than $300 million, the New York Times reported. Canadian company Tiny, which owns a controlling stake in Letterboxd, hired LionTree to explore a sale this year, the report said. Sony shares were down 1.1%, and New York Times added 2.3%.
