Italy - Factors to watch on September 25

POLITICS

(*)Italy's right-wing government on Thursday passed rules to limit the number of foreign pupils at school and ban face coverings, a move opponents said was designed to counter the growing appeal of a rival far-right party ahead of elections due next year.

ECONOMY

Italy's government is taking aim at statistics bureau ISTAT after it reported this week that Rome had missed its key 2025 public finance target, leaving it mired in a European Union disciplinary procedure for its "excessive" budget deficit.

DEBT

Italy's Treasury offers €7.5 billion in BOTs at auction.

Moody's sovereign credit rating review for Italy.

Italy Treasury said on Thursday it will sell up to €8 billion in bonds at a September 29 auction.

COMPANIES

The board of the Tuscan bank on Thursday added to the agenda of its October 29 shareholders' meeting a vote on the merger of Mediobanca MDBI.MI.

On Thursday the bank's board meeting, which mainly focused on the examination of the two offers for Banco BPM BAMI.MI and Banca Generali BGN.MI, lasted nine hours and was marked by conflicting positions between the CEO and minority board members, Italian newspapers reported.

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI , BANCO BPM BAMI.MI, MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI

Credit Agricole CAGR.PA and UniCredit have recently been considering a possible joint move on Banco under a plan that would entail a break-up of the target bank, two people close to the matter said.

POSTE ITALIANE PST.MI, TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) TLIT.MI

As of Thursday the postal group secured a 75.6% stake in Telecom Italia's share capital, below the 90% threshold required for delisting. Poste's takeover bid for Telecom Italia will close definitely on Friday.

LEONARDO LDOF.MI

Airbus AIR.PA said on Thursday it plans to submit an unsolicited proposal to Portugal in late October or early November to supply Eurofighter Typhoon jets as the country seeks to replace its ageing F-16 fleet, pitching the European-built warplane as better suited to Lisbon's needs than Lockheed Martin's F-35.

Airbus manufactures the Typhoon alongside Britain's BAE Systems BAES.L And Italy's Leonardo.

TREVI FINANZIARIA TFI.MI, WEBUILD WBD.MI

Italian engineering company Trevi Finanziaria Industriale said on Thursday its board deemed unfair the price proposed by larger rival Webuild to buy the company, saying it did not adequately reflect Trevi's value.

AVIO AVI.MI

Advent International completed the acquisition of a 6.54% stake in Avio, for a total of €109.6 million, the Italian rocket maker said on Thursday.

Thursday is the deadline for submitting preliminary bids for the bank's non-performing loan portfolio, in which funds Cerberus, Aliseda, Apollo, and Eos are interested, financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported. Binding bids are expected in November, the report added.

The renewable energy producer said on Friday it had signed a five-year Power Purchase Agreement with Glencore Energy Europe for the sale of 164 GWh of renewable electricity per year generated by three of the group’s wind farms in Poland.
