Dollar Outlook Remains Positive Near-Term But Less So Longer-Term -- Market Talk

1026 GMT - The dollar could remain firm in the near term but the longer-term outlook is becoming less favorable for the currency, Societe Generale's Kit Juckes says in a note. Elevated oil prices, robust U.S. economic data and a more risk-averse global environment support the dollar, he says. Further out, November's midterm elections make it difficult for President Trump to maintain accommodative fiscal policies that have supported the economy and the dollar, he says. "The world's major savings economies are saving less than they once did, while the U.S. is having to pay more to attract the investment it needs." The DXY dollar index rises 0.1% to 101.101. Rare in 25 years! The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield surpasses the S&P 500 earnings yield

The 10-year US Treasury yield has surpassed 5%, making bonds more attractive relative to stocks than at any point in the past 25 years. The earnings yield of stocks, as measured by the inverse of the S&P 500’s price-to-earnings ratio, is now lower than the 10-year US Treasury yield, resulting in a clear yield suppression effect on the stock market from bonds. According to the Shiller model, the S&P 500 may outperform bonds by only about 1% annually over the next decade. The 20-year paradigm of stocks outperforming bonds has officially come to an end.
