Rubber market closes mixed, as regional futures weaken amid firm oil prices

(1) The Kuala Lumpur rubber market closed mixed on Tuesday, dragged down by weakness in regional rubber futures due to profit-taking, while firm crude oil prices provided some support. (2) Some traders stated that Japanese rubber futures fell as a result of profit-taking and weakening tire demand, with Chinese manufacturers shutting down for planned maintenance ahead of the holidays as scheduled. (3) According to these traders, reports indicate that the rubber market is currently experiencing a pullback after an unusually rapid surge, with prices returning to more normal levels. (4) Nevertheless, rising crude oil prices offered some support to the rubber market, as concerns grew over potential supply disruptions in West Asia due to a lack of progress in US-Iran negotiations. Oil prices rose on Tuesday, despite the fact that crude oil exports from the region have partially resumed. (5) At 15:00, the Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 dropped by 19 sen to 1,010.5 sen per kilogram, while bulk latex rose by 2 sen to 737.5 sen per kilogram. (6) Overall, market sentiment is fluctuating between weakening demand and cost-side support, with attention going forward focused on the pace of production recovery in China after the holidays and the movement of crude oil prices.
