Copper output in Chile, the world’s largest producer of the metal, fell 12.8% year-on-year in August hit by the effects of a storm and lower ore grades, statistics agency INE said on Wednesday.
Chile produced 369,500 metric tons of copper, down from the 423,643 metric tons it registered in August 2025.
Effects from a storm that hit the country in July, disrupting production operations, continued to affect copper mining and processing, INE said in a report.
“In addition, lower ore grades were recorded at major mining sites in the mining sector,” the statistics agency added.
Manufacturing production in the Andean nation was down 2.6% in the month on a yearly basis, the agency added, after a 4.9% fall registered the prior month.
