In March 2026, the SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretive release classifying XRP as a digital commodity. That regulatory clarity significantly shifted the landscape for institutional participants, and the SEC recently expanded on that move.
On the partnership front, Ripple announced a cross-border payments deal with Jeonbuk Bank in August. Shortly after, Ripple and SettleMint announced a strategic partnership with regulated financial institutions to build a unified system for digital asset custody, issuance, and lifecycle management, launching first across Asia.
A Market At an Inflection Point
The XRP Ledger also crossed $3 billion in tokenized real-world assets earlier in the year. Meanwhile, Rakuten Wallet integrated XRP for 44 million users across Japan, and RLUSD officially launched in Japan through SBI Holdings in June.
Whether Crypto Michael’s call proves correct remains to be seen. The fundamentals behind XRP have strengthened considerably in 2026, and institutional activity on the XRP Ledger continues to grow. The community is watching closely.
