According to Zhihui Finance APP, driven by the late summer rebound in cryptocurrencies, the value of Strategy's (MSTR.US) Bitcoin holdings has increased, resulting in unrealized gains and a return to profitability for the first time in four quarters. In the third quarter, Bitcoin rose 43% year-over-year.
The accounting standards followed by the company require that changes in the fair value of its Bitcoin holdings be recorded in its profit and loss, leading to fluctuations of billions of dollars in quarterly results.

According to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, Strategy also reported that it purchased $28.7 million worth of Bitcoin from October 1 to October 4 and repurchased $176 million in STRC preferred shares. As of press time, Strategy's shares were up more than 2% in early trading.
