Elon Musk stated that Terafab chip factory will be built and operated by his company.
智通财经2026/10/07 08:01Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that his companies will be responsible for building and operating the Terafab artificial intelligence chip complex, and TSMC (TSM.US) will only be allowed to sublease a portion of the facility at most. Terafab is a joint project planned by Tesla and SpaceX in Texas, aiming to build a "gigafactory" for AI chip production. In response to rumors that "TSMC is most likely to own and operate the factory," Musk replied: "No, we will build and operate the factory, there is absolutely no doubt about that." He added that TSMC may sublease part of Terafab if they wish, "but that's all." Last week, Musk revealed that there had been discussions with TSMC about potential collaboration on the Terafab project but did not provide further details.

El Niño continues to intensify and may become a key driver for commodities in 2027
(1) El Niño continues to strengthen, with the latest August Oceanic Niño Index reaching 2.2°C, firmly placing it in the "very strong" category. (2) In comparison, during the 2015-2016 super El Niño event, this index was around 1.7°C in August and subsequently peaked at 2.6°C in December. (3) If this seasonal pattern persists, the coming months could point to an unusually strong or even potentially record-breaking El Niño. (4) The impact on commodities is already evident on both supply and demand sides. (5) Weather-related supply risks are supporting agricultural markets such as sugar, cocoa, and coffee, while the possibility of a milder winter in the Northern Hemisphere could suppress heating demand and dampen natural gas consumption. (6) The more persistent and stronger the current El Niño becomes, the greater the risk that weather will become a more significant driver of commodity prices by 2027.

Rising US dollar and Treasury yields weigh on gold prices; traders focus on Federal Reserve minutes
On Wednesday, the US dollar and Treasury yields climbed again, putting pressure on gold prices. The US Dollar Index is currently around 102.30, hovering near its highest level since April 2025. Meanwhile, the US 10-year Treasury yield rose to about 5.324%, close to Monday’s peak of 5.349%, the highest level since 2002. The Middle East conflict has pushed up oil prices and exacerbated inflation risks. Rising government debt and fiscal deficits, combined with the resilience of the US economy, have all contributed to higher financing costs. Traders will closely watch the Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes for the latest clues on whether the Federal Reserve might further tighten policy. Since the Middle East conflict erupted at the end of February, expectations for a hawkish Fed policy outlook have continued to suppress gold prices, which are now down over 25% from the historical high of nearly $5,600 in January. Nevertheless, long-term demand still provides fundamental support for gold.
