US equity indexes fell ahead of the release of the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes and the results of a 10-year government bond auction. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.5% to 27,466.7, the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 7,794.1 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.6% to 51,180.2 after midday on Wednesday. The Fed is scheduled to release the minutes at 2 pm ET, which investors will parse to assess the path ahead for monetary policy. The Treasury will announce competitive bids at 1 pm ET for an August 2036 maturity note, targeting $39 billion in borrowing. On Sept. 9, a sale of the same amount of 10-year government bonds showed a high yield of about 4.83% and a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. The 10-year yield traded 3.2 basis points higher to 5.30% after midday, its strongest level since 2002. Consumer expectations for one-year US inflation grew to 3.9% in September from 3.6% in the previous month, data from a New York Federal Reserve Bank survey showed. The median inflation expectations climbed to 3.3% from 3.2% over three years but remained at 3.0% for five years ahead. Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract rose 0.4% to $89.84 per barrel, and global benchmark Brent jumped 1.3% to $101.91 per barrel. SpaceX (SPCX) is seeking to raise about $40 billion in financing led by Apollo Global Management to buy Nvidia (NVDA) chips, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

Microsoft launches Surface Laptop Ultra with a starting price of $2,599

Microsoft (MSFT.US) has announced the price and launch date for its new flagship notebook, the Surface Laptop Ultra, which uses Nvidia chips, and stated that the device outperforms Apple's equivalent products in certain AI tasks. At an event in San Francisco on Wednesday local time, Microsoft executives said that when running local models, the Surface Laptop Ultra returns prompt responses twice as fast as the Apple MacBook Pro M5 and generates videos six times faster than Apple’s similar device. The Surface Laptop Ultra will soon begin shipping, with a starting price of $2,599, approximately $400 less than the entry-level 16-inch MacBook Pro. The new Surface, powered by Nvidia chips, supports both general computing and AI computing. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joined Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on stage to discuss the development of this new type of PC chip.
