GlobalFoundries, TSMC Agree to Establish US Supply of Silicon Interposers
MT newswire2026/10/08 12:5408:54 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- GlobalFoundries (GFS) said Thursday it has signed a five-year, $2 billion manufacturing agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) to establish a US-based supply of silicon interposers for TSMC's advanced packaging ecosystem. Under the terms, GlobalFoundries will provide manufacturing services to TSMC, and expand fabrication capacity at its Malta, New York facility, it said, adding that volume production at the site will begin ramping during H1 2028. The additional manufacturing capacity is slated to provide greater scale and flexibility for delivering advanced packaging solutions for multiple product generations, GlobalFoundries further said. Shares of GlobalFoundries were up 4%, while TSMC's stock traded lower in Thursday premarket activity.
