12:59 PM EDT, 10/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were higher Tuesday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 0.5% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) adding 0.8%. In corporate news, General Motors (GM) shares fell past 8% after its updated 2026 profit guidance fell short of Wall Street's projections at the midpoint, overshadowing a Q3 beat and a share buyback plan.
