Market Chatter: Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison Borrowed Billions to Finance Son's Warner Bros. Discovery Acquisition

04:58 AM EDT, 10/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Oracle (ORCL) Executive Chairman Larry Ellison borrowed billions of dollars from Citigroup (C), HSBC (HSBC), JP Morgan (JPM), UBS (UBS), and BNP Paribas to bankroll his son David's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing regulatory filings. Ellison originally planned to sell $7.5 billion worth of Oracle shares but later opted to borrow money, using his shares in his own company as well as Tesla (TSLA), SpaceX (SPCX), and Paramount Skydance (SKYD) as collateral, the report said. California regulatory filings showed that banks had disclosed security interests covering 87 million Oracle shares, up from about 30 million a year earlier, the Journal reported. The filings did not show exactly how much Ellison borrowed, the report said. Oracle and the banks did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
