Impacts of Sanaenomics on Japanese Yen, Government Bonds, and Stock Market
Historic Election Victory Reshapes Japan’s Economic Outlook
On February 8, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi guided the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to a commanding supermajority in the lower house of parliament, marking the most significant electoral triumph in Japan since World War II. As the implications of this landmark win become clearer, questions arise about its impact on the yen, Japanese stocks, and government bonds.
This decisive result paves the way for Japan to pursue greater fiscal stimulus. Takaichi’s campaign centered on a substantial spending increase of ¥21.3 trillion—approximately 3.7% of the nation’s GDP. The proposed investments target key sectors such as national security, artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, quantum computing, shipbuilding, nuclear fusion, and measures to ease living costs. Additional policy initiatives were also outlined to further support economic growth.
