Indonesian minister says Indonesia will discuss nickel mining cooperation with the Philippines

Golden Ten Data Futures, May 6 – According to foreign media reports, Indonesia’s mining minister and an official from the country’s mining association stated on Wednesday that Indonesia and the Philippines plan to discuss nickel ore cooperation during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit later this week. Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that when domestic supply becomes tight, Indonesia will discuss importing more ore from the Philippines. Bahlil stated that no specific import quantity will be agreed upon, and any transactions will be carried out on a business-to-business basis. Djoko Widajatno, a member of the advisory board of the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI), stated that Indonesia plans to request more nickel ore imports from the Philippines to meet the ore demand of domestic smelters. Indonesian nickel smelters frequently import ore from the Philippines when facing domestic supply shortages from local mining companies. Djoko said that Indonesia and the Philippines are both major nickel ore producers, and the two countries will also discuss cooperation in technology development and information exchange.
