04:48 PM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with market moves at the end of the day, and other changes, if any.) The Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded Thursday after a two-day decline, leading Wall Street's advance as traders looked past worries about sticky inflation. The Dow closed 1.1% higher at 52,177.69, while the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to 7,744.06. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.1% to 26,713.03. Most sectors ended in the green, led by healthcare, while energy led the laggards. US producer prices jumped at the fastest pace in more than four years in September amid a surge in energy costs, official data showed Thursday, a day after a report showed consumer inflation also accelerated last month. "A notable acceleration in both consumer and producer prices last month should embolden the (Federal Open Market) Committee to move forward with an additional rate hike in the coming days, particularly given the additional upside risks stemming from energy costs with crude still oscillating around $105 a barrel despite a pickup in traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and the supply of crude flowing from the Middle East," Stifel Chief Economist Lindsey Piegza said in a note e-mailed to MT Newswires. Despite the hot inflation reports, the probability of the US central bank hiking rates by 25 basis points later in October fell to 27% on Thursday from 33% on Wednesday, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Markets are pricing in a 73% probability that the benchmark rate will be kept steady, up from 67%. In other economic news, US retail sales growth exceeded expectations in September as outlays at gas stations increased amid elevated fuel prices. "The pace of spending is likely to cool over the coming quarters as households face a growing number of headwinds, like soft real income growth, a low and declining saving rate, high energy costs and elevated interest rates," TD Economics said in a note. Treasury yields were mostly lower, with the two-year rate down 4.5 basis points at 4.76% and the 10-year rate falling 9.9 basis points to 5.09%. In corporate news, International Paper (IP) shares jumped 6.9%, among the top gainers on the S&P 500, after the company confirmed that it is in talks with potential bidders about a possible sale of its EMEA packaging unit. Charles Schwab (SCHW) reported third-quarter revenue just below Wall Street's estimates and expected its full-year topline to grow at the lower end of its previously issued guidance. Shares of the company fell 2.7%. PNC Financial Services (PNC), US Bancorp (USB), and First Horizon (FHN) posted third-quarter adjusted earnings per share ahead of analysts' expectations, even as net interest income fell short of Street's views. Shares of PNC edged down 0.4% while US Bancorp and First Horizon rose 2% and 0.8%, respectively. Penske Automotive (PAG) has agreed to be taken private by Penske and Mitsui, its two largest shareholders, in a merger deal that values the diversified transportation services company at about $16.3 billion. Shares of Penske Automotive jumped 8.8%. West Texas Intermediate crude oil advanced 2.7% to $97.69 a barrel in Thursday late-afternoon trade, while Brent edged down 0.2% to $105.82. The International Energy Agency on Thursday outlined plans to release more than 20 million barrels of diesel "as soon as possible" as part of its efforts to address a global supply crunch. Spot gold climbed 1.7% to $4,173.58 per troy ounce, while silver jumped 3.1% to $57.60 per ounce.
